  1. Twilight

The first movie in the series, Twilight, was released in 2008 to much fanfare. Nevertheless, the film was a box-office success and paved the way for three more movies in the franchise. Director Catherine Hardwicke’s unique style was praised by some and criticized by others, but there is no doubt that her direction helped to make Twilight the phenomenon it is today.

Edward Cullen saves Bella’s life twice, and they eventually fall in love. However, their relationship is jeopardized when three nomadic vampires arrive in the area and are responsible for a series of deaths being investigated as animal attacks. James lures Bella into a trap, attacks her before Edward arrives, and subdues him just as other Cullens arrive. They kill James and Alice removes the venom from Bella’s wrist, preventing her from becoming a vampire.

Although Jasper is stopped before he can hurt Bella, Edward believes she can never be safe around him or his family. He ends their relationship and leaves Forks with the rest of his family. Bella is devastated by Edward’s decision and struggles to cope with her grief. However, she eventually finds comfort in her friendship with Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Bella begins to suspect that Jacob is hiding something from her as their friendship deepens. Meanwhile, the Cullens are dealing with their own problems.
